Partners are emailed one week prior to the start of a focus week to raise awareness of it. Partners will be contacted again on the first day of the focus week with further information which may contain sample social media posts for partners to use. Each focus week is highlighted on social media in the days and weeks prior to the start of the focus week and a news article is posted on The Flood Hub website.
In 2019 we started a weekly #FloodFactFriday campaign which includes an interesting fact about flooding, rainfall or flood related topics.
Although we directly email many organisations and partner contacts, we also rely on partners to share focus week information to further spread the message and to reach a wider audience. Therefore, any extra help we can receive from partners is greatly appreciated.
The Flood Hub also joins in with external campaigns/focus weeks such as the Environment Agency’s Flood Action Week and #Unblocktober.
If you would like us to support any flood related campaigns or have any ideas for new topics, please email The Flood Team at [email protected] or tag @TheFloodHub and we would be happy to promote.

Social and digital media capabilities
Engagement with the public through social media occurs via X (formally Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn and Bluesky. Our aim is to raise awareness of flooding and how it is managed, as well as to promote resilience and preparedness information for future events, so that individuals can carry out the most appropriate actions at the time of a flood or similar emergency event. We also post information about other flood related topics, such as Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), Natural Flood Management (NFM) and coastal management. Promotion of the website’s pages, downloadable resources, graphics and animations are the main way that information and advice is relayed to the public on social media.
