The Environment Agency, Rossendale Borough Council and partners continue to investigate the possibility of introducing a new flood risk management scheme within Irwell Vale, Strongstry and Chatterton
Residents are being invited to share their thoughts on flood scheme proposals for the communities of Irwell Vale Strongstry and Chatterton at an upcoming public drop-in session.
Taking place on Thursday 3rd March 2022 at Irwell Vale Methodist Church, the event will provide an opportunity for people to find out more about the proposals and how a future scheme will manage the impact of flooding from both the River Irwell and surface water impacts.
The drop-in session will take place from 3pm until 7pm and will provide an overview of the latest developments including the results of recent ground investigation works.
Teams from the Environment Agency will be available throughout the event to discuss and answer any questions that residents may have.
Ben Scott Area Flood and Coastal Risk Manager with the Environment Agency said:
“We have considered many options to reduce flood risk in Irwell Vale, Strongstry and Chatterton and we would like to share some of our findings with the community.
“We would encourage everyone to come along to the drop-in session to learn more about our ongoing work and see what this means for the town.”
Irwell Vale, Strongstry and Chatterton have a history of frequent flooding from a complex combination of sources with the Environment Agency identifying approximately 120 properties at risk.
