The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside has put out an appeal for members of the public to bring their old Christmas trees to their ‘Annual Christmas Tree Planting’ event. The event is taking place across three days and The Wildlife Trust will collect the old Christmas Trees and reuse them to stabilise sand dunes on the Fylde Coast. The trees will be partially buried in front of the existing dunes to trap windblown sand and allow sand to accumulate. The sand dunes on the Fylde Coast act as both a soft sea defence, protecting against coastal flooding and erosion and they also provide a habitat for many specialised plants and animals.
