The Environment Agency have launched a new flood warning service for Braithwaite, Cumbria and in areas of Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire

On 7 December 2022 a new flood warning service was launched in the following areas:

  • Braithwaite (Cumbria)
  • Eagley Brook at Egerton (Bolton)
  • Lee’s Bridge (unnamed) watercourse at Bolton (Bolton)
  • River Wheelock and Arcild Brook at Wheelock (Cheshire East)
  • Black and Clipsley Brooks at Blackbrook, St Helens (St Helens)
  • Shakerley Brook at Hindsford (Wigan)
  • Whittle and Kempnough Brooks at Linnyshaw to Roe Green (Salford)

This work is part of a national Environment Agency project to expand flood warnings to previously hard to reach communities.

Flood Warnings tell people about an imminent risk of flooding to their home or business and help people make informed decisions about how to respond. There are three types of warning – Flood Alert, Flood Warning and Severe Flood Warning.

The Environment Agency have announced that they will be offering a new flood warning service to properties at risk of flooding from Coledale Beck at Braithwaite.
