On Thursday 21st March 2019, the first phase of the Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme was approved by South Lakeland District Council’s planning committee. A meeting took place at Kendal Town Hall during which the Environment Agency’s scheme was unanimously approved by members of the committee, after hearing representations from both supporters and objectors of the scheme. The planning application was approved with the condition that it will then go on to be reviewed by the Secretary of State.
Phase 1 of the scheme involves works along the River Kent and River Mint including raised flood walls, embankments, and a pumping station. More information on the scheme can be found in our previous News article here.
